Brink Climate Systems develops and produces ventilation systems and heating and cooling solutions for the consumer market. One of their products is the Flair, the central unit for a ventilation system with heat recovery. It consists of, among other things, a heat exchanger, fans, an automatic bypass, and a preheater.
The production line for the Flair series includes test stations for the final inspections before the products get packaged and shipped. At these stations, operators check specific components and functionalities of the devices before they leave the factory. The test software used on these stations is customized and based on TestStand sequences and LabVIEW drivers.
The existing test stations needed upgrades for improving test times and ease of use, while at the same time there was a wish to install and leverage a central version control system and introduce a release plan for better managing the test code base. This would create opportunities to increase maintainability of the software and the quality of the test code, as well as reduce test times.
Brink Climate Systems contacted VI Technologies for LabVIEW and TestStand support to do exactly that. VI Technologies installed a central version control system and configured all test stations to connect to this system to follow the newly introduced release plan. The team created a design plan to increase the quality, maintainability, and readability of the current test station software. Based on the functionality of the existing LabVIEW and TestStand code, VI Technologies performed a redesign of the TestStand sequences and improved the robustness of the LabVIEW drivers. This included writing new software specifications and a newly redesigned intuitive Operator Interface. In addition, VI Technologies supported setting up functionality for securely storing test results in a database. By doing so, VI Technologies helped to:
